It’s Back: Unofficial Purdon’s Pennsylvania Statutes from Westlaw!

Many legal researchers - whether attorneys, law librarians, or self-represented litigants - may have noticed that the Unofficial Purdon’s Pennsylvania Statutes from Westlaw website was temporarily unavailable this year. Jenkins is happy to spread the news that, thanks to the Pennsylvania Legislative Reference Bureau, this vital research tool is now back online and publically available for researching PA laws!

Why is this such a big deal?

Access to Information & Access to Justice: The Unofficial Purdon’s Pennsylvania Statutes site, maintained by Thomson Reuters under agreement with the PA Legislative Reference Bureau, is an important resource that provides free online access to a codified version of both the consolidated and unconsolidated Pennsylvania statutes for all. Although the website lacks annotations found in other resources published by commercial vendors, it allows users to research state law without purchasing access to a legal database or visiting a law library to view the statutes in print. Such access is especially important for solo attorneys, small firms, and members of the public, who are either representing themselves or simply researching an area of law that affects their daily lives.
