June 12 is President George H.W. Bush's 95th birthday. Celebrate with his Presidential Papers on HeinOnline.

The Public Papers of the President contain the papers and speeches issued by the Office of the Press Security and are compiled and published by the Office of the Federal Register, National Archives and Records Administration. Found in HeinOnline's U.S. Presidential Library, the compilation, which began in 1957, begins with President Hoover (1929-1933) and continues through President Obama's first term (2009-2013).

President George H.W. Bush's public papers contain prepared speeches, question and answer sessions between the president and the press, and nominations for various government positions. The Public Papers provide insight on some of the big issues of his presidency, like the Relaxation of East German Border Controls, the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, the Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty between the U.S and the U.S.S.R., and negotiations on the North American Free Trade Agreement.

During his tenure, the 41st President also spoke of the importance of libraries and the work librarians do. On July 10, 1991, he addressed the White House Conference on Library and Information Services, saying librarians "preserve democracy's greatest resource, the ideas that have helped reshape an entire world" (863). And in his message to Congress on March 6, 1992 about the Conference, he called libraries "vital because they help ensure a free citizenry and a democratic society" (400-401).
