Research Guide: Pennsylvania Family Law
If you’re looking for guidance or resources on family law issues such as custody, support, divorce, and Protection from Abuse, check out our Pennsylvania Family Law research guide. This online guide provides an overview of some of Jenkins' more popular secondary authorities on family law topics.
Here are a few highlights from the guide:
On the Encyclopedias page, you’ll find a link to the ebook version of the Pennsylvania Law Encyclopedia set, along with links to particular volumes that address family law topics.
Jenkins also has Summary of Pennsylvania Jurisprudence 2d onsite (in print or via Westlaw). See Volumes 15 and 15A for Family Law topics.
The State Practice page of the guide directs members to treatises and practice aids like LexisNexis Practice Guide: Pennsylvania Family Law, Standard Pennsylvania Practice (visit the library to use in print or via Westlaw), and Bisel print publications like Pennsylvania Child Custody: Law, Practice, and Procedure as well as annotated codes & rules.
Our County Practice page highlights the various local practice manuals that can be found at Jenkins, including Philadelphia County Domestic Relations Practice (the most recent edition is available onsite only; older editions loan). We also have similar manuals for Bucks, Chester, Delaware & Montgomery Counties as well as Central PA, Northeastern PA, Western PA, and the Lehigh Valley.
Finally, the Forms page links members into the remotely accessible database, PA Legal Forms, via the 'Member Databases' tab. The 'Onsite Print & Electornic' tab points to popular publications available in the library such as Dunlap-Hanna Pennsylvania Forms (in print and via LexisNexis) and Pennsylvania Family Law Practice and Procedure: With Forms (in print or via Westlaw).
While not as well-known, don’t miss the helpful forms in Library of Pennsylvania Family Law Forms or sample Marriage Settlement Agreements in Essential Family Law Agreements and Documents 2022, both of which can be borrowed.
To access primary source materials like statutes, court rules, and case law, see our collection of PA Law guides.
