Aviation Titles at Jenkins

Celebrate Orville Wright's birthday this week with NASA, The National Museum of the U.S. Air Force, Wright Brothers National Memorial Park, and other air and space organizations. His birthday, August 19, is recognized as National Aviation Day (36 U.S.C. 118).

Jenkins has a variety of aviation materials available in the library in print and on the designated Lexis and WestlawNext computers. Additional materials are also available on member's desktops from databases like General OneFile, HeinOnline, NewsBank, and ProQuest Congressional.

Jenkins has two recent ABA titles in print: Aviation Regulation in the United States and Litigating the Aviation Case: From Pre-Trial to Closing Argument. In the library, the West publication Aviation Tort and Regulatory Law is available on our WestlawNext computers.

For those interested in the history of aviation law, Jenkins' Historic Collection has the 1st (1927), 2nd (1945), and 4th (1967) editions of Rowland W. Fixel's The Law of Aviation. Other historic aviation law titles available at Jenkins include the 1st (1928) and 2nd (1938) editions of Henry G. Hotchkiss' A Treatise on Aviation Law as well as Carl Zollman's Law of the Air (1927), Harold Lincoln Brown's Aircraft and the Law (1933), and W. Jefferson Davis' Aeronautical Law (1930). Aeronautical Law is also available on HeinOnline's Legal Classics Collection, along with other early aviation law titles, including Howard S. LeRoy's Air Law: Outline and Guide to Law of Radio and Aeronautics (1936), Claude E. Puffer's Air Transportation (1941), and Andrew G. Haley's Space Law and Government (1963).

If you are looking for administrative materials, both Lexis and WestlawNext have materials from the Department of Transportation and the Federal Aviation Administration. The Lexis file "Transportation Agency Decisions" includes Department of Transportation Aviation Decisions (1985 - present) and Federal Aviation Administration Decisions (1984 - present), as well as decisions from other Department of Transportation Agencies and Boards. WestlawNext has the Department of Transportation Decisions (1979 - present) and the Federal Aviation Administration Decisions and Chief Counsel Interpretations (1975 - present) in addition to decisions from other Department of Transportation Agencies and Boards.

Those looking for aviation cases can find them in the library using United States Aviation Reports (1928-1967) or CCH's Aviation Cases (1822-2008) and Aviation Law Reporter (2009). HeinOnline also has the United States Aviation Reports (1928-1984) and Digests (1822-1980) in their Early American Case Law Collection.

Congressional materials, including House and Senate Reports, House and Senate Documents, Hearings, Committee Prints, CRS Reports, and the Congressional Record can be found on ProQuest Congressional and HeinOnline. This includes Congressional materials on the Federal Aviation Act of 1958 and its amendments. HeinOnline even has an already compiled legislative history for this act (P.L. 85-726). For those looking for news, magazine, or journal articles General OneFile, HeinOnline, and NewsBank have various law reviews, magazines, and newspapers. General OneFile has a variety of aerospace engineering, aerospace industry, and air transport materials. Titles include Air & Space Power Journal (2002 - present), Aircraft Maintenance Technology (2005 - present), The Aviation Consumer (2006 - present), Aviation History (2007 - present), and Aviation Safety (2006 - present). HeinOnline's Law Journal Library includes ten law journals in it's Aeronautics/Space Law subject listing, including ABA's Air and Space Lawyer (1983 - present) and Southern Methodist University Dedman School of Law's The Journal of Air Law and Commerce (1930 - present).
