Land Rush for Dot Law?

Oklahoma Land Rush

Come October 12 there'll be a new Top-Level Domain (TLD): .law. Currently licensed attorneys will be able to register their names, or their firm's names, for the new domain on a first-come, first-served basis. There are also premium domain names, such as dui.law, available (for a price.) Sign up here to get regular email updates on the process.

Si usted puede leer esto, usted sabe que un dominio .abogado estará disponible para los clientes de habla hispana. (Thanks, Google Translate!)

I'm not saying you shouldn't do this. But I have some questions:

  • Will your clients even notice, or care about, your snazzy dot law domain -- especially if they connect to your site via a mobile device?
  • How will the dot laws rank on Google?

The way I look at it, even if you have a killer (or so you think) dot com domain, you may want to consider registering a dot law for defensive purposes.
