Election Day and the Committee of Seventy
Election Day is this upcoming Tuesday, April 26. The race for president has garnered most of the election coverage in the media, but there are other races in Pennsylvania this year, including 2 U.S. Senate seats, all 18 U.S. House of Representative seats, 25 of the Pa Senate seats, all 203 Pa House of Representatives seats, plus Pa Attorney General, Auditor General, and Treasurer. There's also a proposed amendment to the Pennsylvania Constitution, and for Philadelphia voters, there's a proposed amendment to the Philadelphia Home Rule Charter.
Feeling overwhelmed? Don't worry - the Committee of Seventy and other nonpartisan organizations work to provide information on the candidates, where to vote, and even offer sample ballots for individual voting divisions in Philadelphia.
The Committee of Seventy provides information about elections and voting, campaign finance, and ethics and transparency. The Tools area on their website is a great place to start researching the different candidates and reading the ballot questions before stepping into the voting booth. The Committee of Seventy is a nonpartisan, good-government group that focuses on issues related to Philadelphia's political process and its government.
