Jenkins On Your Desktop: Food Magazines on General OneFile

Next week Philadelphia foodies will partake in Restaurant Week with discounted meals at a variety of Center City restaurants, including City Tavern, Knock, Oyster House, Smokin' Betty's, Zama, and more.

To celebrate Restaurant Week, take a look at some of the food magazines available on General OneFile. Magazines like Better Nutrition (1/1/1996-present) include full text and magazines like Bon Appetit (1/1/1992-present) and Vegetarian Times (1/1/1988-present) also include recipes. General OneFile even includes audio files from NPR: Food (7/17/2008-present) and NPR: Kitchen Window (4/9/2008-present). Please note that some publications have embargoes between publication date and posting on General OneFile, and full text of some articles may not be available.

To access General OneFile, use your last name and member number to log into Jenkins' website. From the Member Center, select General OneFile. To view a specific title, from the gold menu bar select Publication Search. Search for the title of the magazine you are looking for - make sure to un-check the "documents with full text" and "peer-reviewed publications" selections.

To search all food magazines, select Advanced Search from the gold menu bar. Enter your keyword(s) into the first search box. In the second search box, enter food and change the drop-down menu to Subject. Make sure to un-check the "documents with full text" and "peer-reviewed publications" selections. A date restriction can also be added.

General OneFile search results default to Academic Journals. To change this, from the menu on the left side of the search results list click "Magazines". For large search results, it may be helpful to "Search within results", also located on the left side of the screen. Other post-search limiters include publication title and date.

For articles unavailable in full text on General OneFile, Jenkins Interlibrary Loan Department works with other institutions to locate and deliver a variety of books and articles. Fees do apply.
