Jenkins On Your Desktop: TV News Transcripts on NewsBank

NewsBank has a collection of national news transcripts from a variety of television stations, including CBS (2003-current), CNN (2003-current), the Fox News Channel (2003-current), and NBC (2005-current). Specific television news programs include the Charlie Rose Television Show (2004-current), Dan Rather Reports (2006-current), and the NewsHour with Jim Lehrer (2006-current).

To access this collection, use your last name and member number to log onto Jenkins' website. From either the Member Center or the list of Member Databases, select NewsBank. Once in NewsBank, select United States from the Search Shortcuts in the middle of the screen. From the list of locations, click on National. From the tabs below the search box, select Source Types, then click on Transcripts.

Clicking on any of the station names will allow you to browse that station's transcripts by date. Some stations, like CNN, provide detailed daily transcript lists. Other stations have only one transcript that includes all of that day's news reports. For news programs, clicking on the specific program will allow you to browse that program's transcripts by date.

To search the transcripts, check the box next to the stations and/or programs you would like to search. Enter your search terms in the search box and click Search. Search results can be further limited by year or source after the initial search by using the facets on the left side of the results list.

NewsBank is a membership resource available to all Jenkins members.
