How To Use This Site
Welcome to Jenkins Law Library's Web site!
Who Are We?
The Jenkins Web site is run by Jenkins Law Library - the county law library for the city of Philadelphia. Our staff consists of over 35 legal research specialists, internet trainers, web and technology professionals.
In addition to this Web site, Jenkins Law Library supports and maintains a 589,000+ volume collection of legal materials, an Information & Research department, a Document Delivery service and an acclaimed CLE professional development program at its home in Philadelphia.
Using this Site
Jenkinslaw.org is designed to be a convenient, online research resource for our members and the public, as well as a convenient way to find out about and sign up for professional development courses, apply for membership, order documents and research work, and get reference questions answered. A quick look at our Site Map provides users with easy access to every page in the Jenkins' Web site. Keep up-to-date with new resources and announcements using
.
Following are some tools from our Web site that we recommend for conducting legal research online.
JAC - The Legal Resource Portal
JAC (Jenkins Automated Catalog) is a complete, online inventory of the entire Jenkins collection - federal and state materials, statutes, regulations and reporters, court records and briefs, treatises, centuries-old rare materials - in books, electronic format, microform and more. Search JAC for materials on your topic to find a list of resources, their availability, and links to online versions of publications. Then use our document delivery form form to have what you need delivered to your office.
Jenkins Journal Portal
This portal brings together thousands of legal and nonlegal journals from a variety of sources and media into one easily searchable place. If you have a reference to a business, medical, legal, social, or behavioral science journal, our portal will link you to the source(s) to obtain your information. Don't waste your valuable time searching the entire web for a journal -- bookmark journals.jenkinslaw.org!
Legal and Nonlegal Research Links Collection
A popular spot for online researchers. This collection is the cream of the online legal research crop, with links to state, federal and local legal resources, medical and business links, a wide variety of search engines, and more. All sites are evaluated by Jenkins librarians, and annotations make it easy to decide which sites are right for your needs.
Pennsylvania Legislative Histories
The 1000+ Pennsylvania Legislative Histories on this site are available only at Jenkins. The histories are available to members in PDF format (or in hard copy at the reference desk). If you need a history that's not already there, our librarians will compile it for you as a part of our custom research service.
Member Online Services
For Jenkins members, we currently provide online access to both legal and nonlegal publications through services such as HeinOnline, LegalTrac, General OneFile, and WilsonWeb. From their desktop, members have easy access to online collections like the Federal Register Library, the U.S. Supreme Court Library, and the Treaties and Agreements Library.
Research Guides
Save yourself some hunting for information with an Information Specialist-compiled research guide. Topics include comprehensive Professional Responsibility Resources, Legal Research Tools for the Solo Practitioner, Getting Started with Legal Research Online and more.
Information and Research Services
Our Information & Research staff is available during library hours to answer reference questions and perform customized research (the first 15 minutes of research is always free to members!) Check out our reference and research pages to submit questions and see how people are using these services.

Finally, check out the About Us section, where you'll find articles on how Jenkins began (over 200 years ago!), portraits of early Philadelphia bench and bar members, and a fascinating account of the history of Jenkins Law Library.
