JAC Tips

Search Tips

Use a variety of search options, as opposed to just keywords, when searching JAC.
  • Search by Subject, Author and Title. These methods provide related cross-references that are not offered in the Keyword search.

  • Use Keyword searches when you don't know the exact title or subject heading of an item and when you need to locate numbers and dates within a title or series.

Keyword search results are usually grouped by relevance to bring the most likely titles to the top of the list. Each group represents a similar level of relevance and results are sorted within the group by date or title. To get an ungrouped result set, use boolean operators to form a complex query.

    Most relevant titles
    Highly relevant titles
    Very relevant titles
    Relevant titles
    Other relevant titles

  • Use the expander (*) in a Keyword search to retrieve all forms of a root word. Example: trust* will retrieve: trust, trusts, trustee, trusted and trusting.

  • Click an item in your search results page to see the full bibliographic record.

  • Limit Search by known criteria like publisher, date, language, material type (audiocassette, book ,etc.) prior to running your query. This will reduce the number of records your search will return.

    • Limit by multiple fields:
For individual limits with multiple values, hold the control key (Windows) or the command key (Mac) to select more than one. The multiple values are assumed to be "or"s, for example "material type books or serials."

    • Modify/Limit by Location:
Based on the location listed on the bibliographic records.
